ロイターが気候変動でホッキョクグマが共食い始めるという記事を掲載した。記事の隣には大人のオスが、子供のクマの生首を加えるというショッキング過ぎる写真が掲載されている。

　ただ、ホッキョクグマの共食い。厳密には大人のオスが子グマを襲うことは珍しく無い。大人のオスは子グマを見かけると子グマを殺すか、捕食しようとする。その為、子連れの母グマは、大人のオスをひどく怖がることが分かっている。

　理由は子グマを育てている大人のメスに自分の子供を産んで貰う為、別のオスの子供である子グマを殺す、いわゆる繁殖行動の一環と見られている。端的に言えばライバルの遺伝子を潰して、自分の遺伝子を残す。

　また、イヌイットも大人のオスによる子グマ殺しは古くからあると話しているので、温暖化のせいで、初めて共食いが始まったというわけではない。

　しかし、ここまでショッキングな写真を掲載し、温暖化のせいと言えば、多くの人の関心を集めるのも確か。
